Carisoprodol 350mg
Mechanism: Interferes with neuronal communication within the reticular formation and spinal cord, resulting in sedation and alteration of pain perception
Indications
- Approved Uses: Relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions, such as muscle spasms, strains, and sprains
- Off-Label Uses: Treatment of fibromyalgia, tension headaches, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
Dosage and Administration
- Dosage Forms: Tablets (250mg, 350mg)
- Recommended Dosage: 250-350mg orally three times a day and at bedtime
- Administration: Tablets can be taken with or without food
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity: To Carisoprodol or any of its ingredients
- Acute Intermittent Porphyria: Carisoprodol is contraindicated in patients with acute intermittent porphyria
Side Effects
- Common Side Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, stomach upset
- Serious Side Effects: Seizures, allergic reactions, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia
Interactions
- CNS Depressants: Concomitant use with CNS depressants (e.g., benzodiazepines, opioids) may increase the risk of sedation and respiratory depression
- Other Interactions: Concomitant use with certain medications (e.g., warfarin, tricyclic antidepressants) may require dose adjustments or monitoring
